6 Tips for Reducing Healing Crisis During Detox

Healing Crisis Treatment

If you’re going through a cleanse/ detox, then there’s a good chance that you will hit a wall in regards to going from feeling great and energised, to feeling crappy and like you’ve got the flu…topped with an acne breakout. And bad breath.

But! These are actually all signs that you are going through what is known as a ‘healing crisis, which means that your body is actually kicking out the toxins, and you’re on the road to better health.

In the meantime, although generally short lived, a healing crisis can suck! (Even though you should know that it’s a physical sign your cleanse is working!).

So! Let’s look at a few things that you can do in order to reduce the symptoms of a healing crisis, such as fatigue, headaches, skin eruptions, rashes and more. For a full list of symptoms, go here.

1

Dry Skin Brushing

I cannot recommend this enough for people to use – during (and after) a cleanse. As our skin is our largest organ, it means that brushing allows for the release of toxins. On top of feeling refreshed and revitalised and making your skin baby soft (not to mention reducing cellulite, increasing both blood and lymphatic system circulation), dry skin brushing releases toxins – fast. If you are feeling like hell – try it. It works.

For more information on dry skin brushing go here. Follow it by having a quick cool shower to rinse off, and if using a scrubbie, go for a natural bristle. Then slowly increase the heat. For soap, if using any, select natural and organic.

2

Epsom Salt, Bicarb & Ginger Soak

I recommend investing in some bulk ingredients for this one…as you are going to be wanting to do this at least a few times a week. By making this initial investment, you will be saving in the long run (plus, it’s great to use if you’re not going through a cleanse, just as a bit of a pick-me-up).

(Links for buying these products in bulk are highlighted). In a hot bath add 2 cups of Epsom salt, 1 cup of bicarbonate soda and 3 tablespoons of ground ginger.

Soak for a minimum of 20 minutes. (Why not throw on a candle and some lovely, gentle relaxing music whilst you’re in there!).

3

Water, Water, Water!

Water is going to be your best friend in regards to your detox (and health in general!). It is going to be what helps flush the toxins out of your body, increase energy and reduce brain fog. For more information on how much you should be drinking and the importance of water, go here.

4

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)

Apple cider vinegar is also known as ACV…and I am truly addicted to this stuff! Try pouring 1 tbsp of it into every 8 ounces of water that you drink. It’s also light, refreshing and delicious as an easy salad dressing made by drizzling it and some extra virgin olive oil on your salads – and amazing on avocados!

ACV is rich in polyphenols and antioxidants, which help to boost the immune system and kill microbes that inhabit the digestive tract.

5

Probiotics

Taking probiotics provide highly beneficial bacteria which help to support gut microflora and in dong so, stimulate a healthy immune response. Beneficial bacteria boost detoxification pathways by increasing gut motility and neutralizing endotoxins.

6

Fermented Foods

As you are doing a cleanse, it is also important to look at re-introducing good bacteria into your gut. Fermented foods are an excellent way to do this and they will also help to eliminate pathogens that are causing the side effects of your cleanse.

Fermented food can trigger a healing crisis in people who are toxic from high sugar. This is due to an effect which is basically the result of the sugar toxins leaving the body called metabolic acidosis.

Establishing healthy gut bacteria is actually imperative to overall health. Try introducing fermented foods such as:

And Lastly…

Lots of rest and get a good sleep. Listen to your body. It’s going through some heavy duty stuff by doing a cleanse! And toxins love to hang in there for the fight! This is actually a fight for your health and well-being. So love yourself, be gentle with yourself and take it easy. Your body will thank you for it in the short and long run!
